Learn More About The Enchanting Moon

The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System. The average centre-to-centre distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,403 kilometres (238,857 mi), about thirty times the diameter of the Earth. The common centre of mass of the system (the barycentre) is located at about 1,700 kilometres (1,100 mi)—a quarter the Earth's radius—beneath the surface of the Earth.

The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days (the orbital period), and the periodic variations in the geometry of the Earth–Moon–Sun system are responsible for the phases of the Moon, which repeat every 29.5 days[ (the synodic period).

The Moon's diameter is 3,474 kilometres (2,159 mi), a little more than a quarter of that of the Earth. Thus, the Moon's surface area is less than a tenth of the Earth (about a quarter of Earth's land area, approximately as large as Russia, Canada, and the United States combined), and its volume is about 2 percent that of Earth. The pull of gravity at its surface is about 17 percent of that at the Earth's surface.

The Moon is the only celestial body on which human beings have made a manned landing. While the Soviet Union's Luna programme was the first to reach the Moon with unmanned spacecraft, the NASA Apollo program achieved the only manned missions to date, beginning with the first manned lunar mission by Apollo 8 in 1968, and six manned lunar landings between 1969 and 1972 – the first being Apollo 11 in 1969.

Human exploration of the Moon temporarily ceased with the conclusion of the Apollo program, although a few robotic landers and orbiters have been sent to the Moon since that time. The U.S. has committed to return to the Moon by 2018.

The proper English name for Earth's natural satellite is, simply, the Moon (capitalized). Moon is a Germanic word, related to the Latin mensis (month).

In English, the word moon exclusively meant "the Moon" until 1665, when it was extended to refer to the recently discovered natural satellites of other planets. Subsequently, these objects were given distinct names in order to avoid confusion. The Moon is occasionally referred to by its Latin name, Luna, primarily in science fiction.

The Moon is in synchronous rotation, which means it rotates about its axis in about the same time it takes to orbit the Earth. This results in it keeping nearly the same face turned towards the Earth at all times. The Moon used to rotate at a faster rate, but early in its history, its rotation slowed and became locked in this orientation as a result of frictional effects associated with tidal deformations caused by the Earth.

The side of the Moon that faces Earth is called the "near side" or Earthside, and the opposite side the "far side." The far side is often inaccurately called the "dark side," but, in fact, it is illuminated exactly as often as the near side: once per lunar day, during the New Moon phase we observe on Earth when the near side is dark. The far side of the Moon was first photographed by the Soviet probe Luna 3 in 1959.

As a result of its colourful history and inherent beauty I would find it difficult to believe why anyone shouldn't want to own a small part of the wonderful and magical Moon!

How is it possible to become a moon land owner?

The United Nations set forth a law many years ago named, simply enough, the Space Law. It was meant to guide nations during the so-called Space Race in the 1960s, deterring any country — whether it was the United States, Russia, China or tiny Luxembourg — from landing on the Moon, Mars, Mercury or Jupiter and claiming it as its own sovereign property.

What the United Nations Space Treaty didn't stop is the common person — you, me, anyone on Earth — or a corporation from entering a claim on the land, and that's why you and I are here right now discussing this subject.

Now, you could go someplace, like the U.S. State Department, and tell the folks there that you want to own a few acres on the Moon, but they'll just look at you blankly and then shuffle you off to the administrative aide to the third under-assistant deputy secretary in charge of domestic affairs, who will simply smile at you and tell you it isn't his department.

That's why the International Lunar Lands Registry (or "Lunar Registry" for short) was created. For a nominal fee, you can stake your claim to property in any of a dozen different locations on the moon. The deed and title to the lunar real estate claim is yours forever, and you can hand it down to your children or sell it to anyone at any price you choose.

You're probably thinking, "Right! Like I'll ever get to go to the Moon and see my real estate there!" Indeed. Just remember back in the 1800s when land claims to places like California and Oregon were being offered for mere pennies, sight unseen, to anyone who wanted to take a chance (a longshot chance, at that) on that distant property ever being with anything.

Those who did take a chance, however, were rewarded when their simple barren plots of worthless land in gold-rich California suddenly turned into megalopolises like Los Angeles and San Francisco.....

The Location of Your Moon Estate

There are about 9-billion acres of property on the Moon, of which about 2% is available to be claimed by the public. The 2% that is available is located in a dozen locations on the Moon that were selected for their potential as tourism centres, research and development sites, mining and manufacturing hubs, and way stations for shuttles heading to Earth, Mars or other locations throughout the Universe.

Buy moon land - Sea of SerenityThese premium lunar property tracts include the Sea of Tranquillity, the Lake of Dreams, the Sea of Serenity (shown in the photo at right), the magnificent Taurus Mountains (which overlook the Sea of Love) and the stunning Lunar Alps.

Decisions on how your property on the moon will be developed (or if it will be preserved in its natural pristine state) will be determined by you and the collective owners of moon property as citizens of the first Lunar Republic.
